Preserving the lives of unadoptable orphans in China.
Big Stone Foundation was founded with the sole purpose of alleviating poverty in China's countryside, and improving the lives of the children and families we are in contact with. We dream big dreams. Our passion is working with the children that no one wants; the kids that have been rejected by all others. By embracing the outcast, we find value in our work. By changing one life, our work is validated. By feeding one mouth, our goal is met.
But we don't stop there...
We aim to treat these beautiful children as our own, and give them the dignity and respect that every child deserves. We aim to change their lives through psychological healing, proper nutrition, and high quality education. We keep track of the state and welfare of children that are not yet 'ours', so that if there is a sudden and drastic change, we can be there for them; to comfort them and to rescue them from disaster. We build a waiting list, trusting that as the funds come in we can afford to rescue more children. We plan for their futures, each one individually; it is not enough just to get them in the door and feed them.
Some orphaned children on our radar are being cared for by elderly relatives. We don't remove them from their relatives (as long as the situation is healthy, and safe), but instead, we do what we can to support the child AND their caretakers. Many elderly people in the countryside villages are lacking in proper nutrition and basic health care. We try to provide them with nutritional supplements, winter blankets, and supplies needed in daily life. When needed, we can arrange volunteer doctors from the city to come give them assistance. By caring for the caretaker, we are prolonging their lives and keeping the child in their currently stable situation. If the situation changes, we can be there- ready to help the child.
